Why We Love Houston

Lovingly known as H-Town, Houston is the largest and most diverse city in Texas.  Aside from the incredible Texas BBQ, Houston is also an awesome place to invest in real estate.

Here’s why:

Houston is large

Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the US.  We’ve seen many first-time investors get caught in the trap of chasing high, double digit cashflow returns by targeting small cities.  The issue with this is these cities tend to be much more volatile and susceptible to external circumstances that impact the housing and rental markets.

Strong population growth

It’s estimated that everyday, 275 people move to Houston.  That’s over a hundred thousand people annually - an impressive number for a city that’s already the fourth largest in the US.

Additionally, 24% of Houstonians are already millennials and the city is still leading the charge in millennial migration in the nation.

Strong job growth

Houston has long been known as the energy capital of the world but we think this nomer unfair.  For the past 30 years, Houston has focused on diversifying away from the energy sector and now counts healthcare, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation as additional top industries.  In fact, Walmart and Insperity are the two largest employers in the area.  Houston is now ranked third in job growth rates in the nation while being home to headquarters to the second most Fortune 500 companies in the nation.
